Escapade in Spring!

Yesterday I decided to go on a cruise in my white pedal boat and maybe see the folks in the PNWORCA race. For some reason I thought the race was starting at Agua Verde and going to include Lakes Union and Washington, so I put in at the Sunnyside boat ramp on Lake Union in Seattle. Shortly after launching I passed one of those wood-fired hot tub boats as well as nearly a dozen rowing shells and headed to Agua Verde.

It was rather quiet at the would-be launch park at 10:30 AM (especially with the race starting at 11), so I consulted the PNWORCA web site again -- and saw the start was at Sand Point. Oops! Time to head through the Montlake Cut!

A large group of rowing 8's were just finishing a regatta through the Montlake Cut, so after waiting for them to clear out I headed towards Sand Point. About half a mile or so past Webster Point I finally ran into the PNWORCA racers. Greg Barton was far out in front of second place, with a roughly equal distance from second place to third and the rest of the field.

After taking too many photos I returned through the Cut and still more single shell racers, past Gasworks Park to the Aurora Bridge, cruising around the area and finally running into Vadim Kin before returning to the boat ramp.

Overall I pedaled 10+ miles on the water and had a great time!

Oh, yes - photos can be found on my web site at http://lampi.us/mike/PNWORCA-2021-03-27/album/index.html
